I got the chance to talk to some fellow pest control operators during lunch time today.
The conversation was about pest control here in the local Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and Tulsa area. The gentleman I was speaking with worked for a large national pest control company that everybody has heard of. He recently made a switch to a smaller company due to the pressure and demands placed on him to finish each pest control job as fast as he could. The gentleman stated that working for the large national company was tough because they were required to do a route consisting of anywhere from 12-14 accounts per day as well as knock doors and prospect for additional customers while on route. The biggest problem with this was the route was in all areas of Tulsa, Bixby, Jenks and Broken Arrow. If they didn’t finish the route in what the corporation felt was fair time, they received a mark on their personal employment report. This meant there was little time to make sure the job was done to a high standard. So due to being Over Booked their customers got a bad deal and inferior pest control services.
I’ve always felt that doing a good, quality job takes precedence over doing quantity. This has always been our way and after talking with this gentleman and hearing how they had to cut corners to get the route done. I now realize why so many customers using these large, national companies are not pleased.
I hear customers when they call and say: Ive been using —-ABC—- and they seem to only be here 10 minutes or so every time they do pest control. I still have the pests, bugs and I feel like they are not doing a good job! These calls happen all too often and I feel so bad for these people because they have been paying a company, under contract but not getting good service. It’s a bad deal and probably part of the reason these companies require a contract for even their general pest control customers.
